Packing Light

We’re getting ready to head across the pond in a few weeks. While I’m really looking forward to spending a few days in England and almost a week in Ireland, I’m a little nervous about packing well and compactly. Over the years our family has adopted the “carry-on only” rule for air travel and it is usually not a problem especially when traveling on shorter trips or domestically, but I have some packing jitters this time.

Here are my chief concerns:

  • bringing clothes that fit (pregnancy has really done a number on the stability of my wardrobe)
  • the weather (too warm, too cold, and not having the right clothes)
  • comfort (again, this belly is growing so more attention has to be paid to comfort – especially for shoes this trip)

Do you have some tips or tricks to share? How do you pack lightly for air travel? What things can you not live without?

A trip to the Northeast

To be fair, when I made my Fall Bucket List I already knew we were planning to head to the Northeast for our October vacation. So, I guess it was kind of cheating to add it to the list. But, the whole point of the list was to a have a little fun and that’s exactly what this trip was for!

Maine was simply lovely. The leaves were all shades of red and yellow. Breath taking.

The coast line was gorgeous. Mr. Thirdrow seat got to try out the panoramic feature on his iPhone while we were visiting the Light House at Cape Neddick, ME. That’s me standing on the shoreline.

Mostly we just sat in front of the fire and read our books. It was incredibly relaxing.

One afternoon we ventured down to our aunt’s favorite place to buy Lobster on the water. Sadly, it was closed for the season, but we found three select lobsters at their inland shop that accepted our invitation to dinner. They were delicious!

We capped the whole week off with an evening in New York City visiting one of my dearest friends.

All in all, it was a marvelous vacation! What about you? Going anywhere soon?

Vacation Story

Taking Five

Things have been busy lately. Too busy. Hectic and more than a little stressful.

So, we’re taking a breather. Resetting our interior clocks to a slower pace. See you soon.

Back to the very Beginning

Two years ago this month my husband was just my co-worker, just a friendly guy who I thought was nice and didn’t mind being on projects with, and we went bashing around Seattle with another co-worker and friend, Mike, while visiting the West Coast on a business trip. When I got home from that trip my best friends kept asking me about him. They suggested maybe I entertain the idea of thinking of him as more than a co-worker.

This week, while we were in Tacoma, we were able to sneak away for a bit and spend some time in Seattle…It was nice to be back. Seattle will always hold a special place in our story and I hope we are able to return often to see good friends, drink amazing coffee, and take in the beautiful waterfront.

Off the Menu

This week we’re living on the edge – no meal planning! Just kidding, we’re not that crazy. Although the planner in me is a little horrified that my menu planning calendar on our fridge is blank this week, it’s for good reason. We’re setting off for the West coast!!

We’re super excited to be spending the next week with the awesome folks at Soma Communities talking with them about how they live life together in community. I’ll be sure to share about our week there when we return. In the mean time, watch this video from Jeff Vanderstelt, Soma Communities elder, about the story of his missional community.
